    Ingredients

    The ingredients needed to make Imli-gud ki dal / tamarind- jaggery dal:

    1. Get 1 cup masoor dal (red lentils) cooked
    2. Make ready 2 large onions
    3. Get 1 medium sized potato (cut into diced)
    4. Take 1 tsp turmeric powder
    5. Prepare 1 tsp coriander powder
    6. Take 2 tsp tamarind powder
    7. Make ready 2 tsp jaggery powder
    8. Prepare 1/2 tsp black salt
    9. Get to taste Salt
    10. Make ready 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
    11. Take As per taste Green chilies if you want
    12. Prepare 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
    13. Prepare 1 tsp ginger paste
    14. Get 1/2 tsp garlic paste
    15. Take 3 tbsp oil/ghee
    16. Take 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
    17. Make ready 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
    18. Take 1 tsp garam masala

    Even though this recipe is as simple as mixing jaggery and spices into tamarind puree, its tasty secret lies in use of black salt. Imli Ki Meethi Chutney, Sweet Chutney or Sweet Chaat Chutney, tamarind sweet chutney is easy chaat chutney made with tamarind, raisins, jaggery as main ingredients. I have already posted sweet chutney recipe in which is made from tamarind and dates and in this sweet chutney no dates are used. Strain it and add the jaggery, chilli powder, cumin powder, salt, garam masala and mix well.


    Instructions

    Instructions to make Imli-gud ki dal / tamarind- jaggery dal:

    1. In a pan heat oil and put diced potatoes in it. Cover it for a while. Stir it occasionally. Put it on medium heat it will take 5-10 minutes to cool completely.
    2. When potatoes are perfectly cooked stir fry them on high flame for couple of minutes to get golden colour. Once potatoes get perfect colour immediately transfer it into a plate.
    3. Check the quantity of oil, adjust it according to your requirement. Put hing, cumin seeds and mustard seeds, saute for a minute. Now add garlic paste first then ginger paste stir till raw smell goes away.
    4. Now add finely chopped onions and saute until onions turns translucent. Add green chilli add all dry spices except garam masala and saute till oil appears on sides.
    5. Now add tamarind and jaggery add little water and simmer for a few minutes. You also soak tamarind and jaggery in a cup of water earlier and use in this step.
    6. After water evaporates add cooked potatoes saute for a minute and add dal, mix it properly and bring a boil. Simmer for 5-6 minutes.
    7. After that turn off the gas and add garam masala powder and cover it. Yummy tamarind jaggery dal is ready to serve.
    8. Serve hot with chapati or rice. I like it with bati so this is my bati's perfect partner.
    9. Note– Always grind tamarind and jaggery before use for better results - Use tamarind and jaggery more or less according to you taste
